When we first discussed having a launch fundraiser, and once we had decided on a basic format, somebody said, “I wonder if we could ask Sally Wainwright to come down and cut the ribbon?” “Well that would be perfect,” somebody else commented. “As if!” we all said unanimously, after a brief pause, moving onto the price of balloons and vol-au-vents.
It wasn’t just that we are all fans of Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, Playing the Field and At Home with the Braithwaites, with their gritty and honest portrayal of Calderdale life; we love her because Sally Wainwright is one of us. She has recognised that our wonderful home deserves to be on television screens all across the country, but most importantly for us, she has never shied away from truthful, controversial, inspiring LGBTQ characters. However, with her hectic career and commitments, we never expected her to find time for us.
How wrong we were to presume, but how right to follow our hearts. We are now thrilled to announce that BAFTA award-winning Sally will be officially cutting the ribbon at our Launch Fundraiser at Machpelah Mill, Hebden Bridge, on Saturday 19th March 2016, and we can’t thank her enough for her support. Fittingly, just as series 2 of Happy Valley is coming to an exhilarating climax, she will be answering some questions about her dramas, Yorkshire, and her readiness to represent the LGBTQ community.
We are so excited to have Sally as our very special guest and we hope you will join us in welcoming her to our Happy Valley on March 19th.
