A FREE workshop for wannabe performers with Cal De Cabaret
At the heart of what we like to do at Cal De Cabaret is create work that says something- that could be something big or small, something that talks about the world and our place within it. Something that resonates with the audience.
This summer, in our lead up to Pride we are going to be hosting a day-long workshop that explores how to create performance that does these things.
We welcome participants of all art forms, backgrounds and experience who are interested in putting an existing idea (or something totally new) on its feet.
During the workshop we will explore ways to unlock creative flow (silencing those self sensor demons)
Working with different genres of performance or media to express ideas
And some techniques for putting everything together.
There will be creative exercises, 1 to 1 support and feedback from Mook & Lizzy along with a little sharing opportunity with the rest of the group.
Participants of this workshop will be invited to perform at our cabaret to round up Pride week on the 26th of July. The last Sunday of pride in the valley accumulates in a show at the Golden Lion in Todmorden, it’s a relaxed, welcoming, wind down environment where you’d be surrounded by other brand new acts and established performers.
The workshop is FREE, if you are interested in attending please send us an email at [email protected] by Wednesday 24th June 2026 answering the following questions:
- Can you give us a couple of lines about you and your idea?
- Would you be interested in performing at our next cabaret on the Sunday 26th July 2026 in Todmorden for the final Sunday of Pride?
We will then get back in touch with you to let you know if you have a place on the workshop.
A bit about your workshop leaders:
Mook & Lizzy run Cal de Cabaret together, they are both interested in experimental queer performance.
Lets push some boundaries. Pride is a protest. Be weird.
Mook:
Mook is a multi disciplinary performance artist. She has a BAHons in Theatre & MA in advance performance practice (Lancaster and Lincoln Uni) and has been working in performance for over a decade making solo pieces and work in collaboration.
Her interest is in creating visual artistry on the stage and questioning accepted norms of ownership, love and friendship.
Mook has performed and collaborated with venues across the UK such as The Royal Exchange MCR, Stage at Leeds, The Vaults LND and Camden Peoples Theatre.
Just as happy doing a silly little dance as a heart wrenching monologue Mook is excited to bring her experience of the stage and basements alike to help you put your ideas in motion.

They trained in physical theatre & clowning (Ecole International Jacques Lecoq, Jonathon Young). Lizzy creates performances that span storytelling, drag, cabaret, clown and live art that are audience/participant centred and are propelled by the unexpected.
They are an experienced play worker and facilitator - Play, learning & curiosity underpin their creations and creativity & imagination are central to Lizzy’s facilitation/playwork practice.
‘I believe in listening, discussion and questioning to create work for and with communities that speaks about the lived human and more than human existence.’
